Ever look into the past and think, ‘Wow, I was so stupid Back then’? I am sure you have at least a few hundred times, which is completely natural. But, did you know that by judging or criticizing somebody for what they are today, you are in reality targeting their past ‘stupid’ selves?
The person you are today, is not necessarily the person you can be tomorrow, so if we waste our time worrying about our present selves, we are simply regretting what we did in the past, instead of focusing on becoming a better person in the future.
This is why it is crucial that we stop wasting our energy being negative about others, and instead focus on improving ourselves, constantly striving for perfection. None of us are perfect, and none of us have the right to pass judgement on each other.
Why Judgement and Criticism Should be erased completely
It may seem obvious why they must be stopped, but if it really is, then why do we have so much negativity surrounding us all the time? Why are unnecessarily critical comments made about each other everyday? Why don’t people stop judging?
Take for example the popular rapper Kanye West, who went on stage when Taylor Swift was receiving the MTV music video award for the best music video by a female artist. He cut her off before she got a chance to speak, and boldly claimed to the audience that the award rightfully belonged to Beyonce. After this event, everybody immediately classified Kanye as an Arrogant prick, without even bothering to listen to his reasoning, and he is shunned for it till today. He asked an interviewer, ‘Do you think if Taylor Swift made the best video of her career, after as many years in the game as Beyonce, she would allow a newbie to take the award from her?’
This example shows us that when we judge somebody else, not only are we judging them for their past decisions, we also usually don’t know the full story behind the event. Think about it, does it really make sense for somebody to find the need to judge the Vemma organization, based completely on the failure of ONE of their friends? Does it make sense to judge an entire country, based on the bad decisions made by a select few politicians? Does it make sense to judge an entire university, because a few football players were caught up in a controversy? Or if there was a small shootout? NO!
Why Removing Judgement Equals Removing Negativity
The more we reflect on all the criticism and judgement passed around everyday, the more we realize how big of a time and energy wasting process it is. I work 15-20 hours a day, but I deal with almost no stress, because I avoid negative thoughts. Positive thoughts are a 100 times more powerful than negative ones, and negative thoughts are 100 times more stressful than positive ones. So stop wasting your time worrying and getting negative over somebody else’s issues, and stop making them feel the same way about themselves. Divert this attention towards improving yourself instead.
So many people complain about being judged and criticized, but it is usually people that judge and criticize others that receive the most of it. We may not want to admit it, but consciously or subconsciously, we ALL do it. Even me. None of us are perfect, which is exactly why we should consistently try to maintain our focus on ourselves.
If you find yourself criticizing someone, stop it, and instead talk to the person about it. Give them some advice to improve, and maybe try and understand the situation better. What if that bald women whom you laughed at to yourself, is in reality fighting cancer? What if that really fat women is dealing with Thyroid issues? Think about it.
