I write all these articles about avoiding the negativity of this world, but it gets to me too sometimes. I naturally have deep anxiety issues, which I have always fought by pushing myself to an extreme level everyday of my life, be it in the gym or in my business. But, what happens when negativity just takes over, and makes you feel like throwing and breaking shit? Well, there isn’t just one answer I can give that applies to everybody, because we are all different.
In any case though, you need to find something that you do by yourself, with which you express your innermost thoughts, while listening to music that makes you feel good. I find that this generally works for me, with my way of venting out being writing.
You should try keeping a private diary, where you record your deepest and most personal thoughts. If your mind is the only place you reflect on all the pain and suffering of your life, it WILL overwhelm you. I wish I could give you guys a better answer, but this one is on you, as it depends on your own personalities and tastes. I recommend trying writing, rapping, talking to your close friends/family whom you trust, hitting the gym, etc. Anything that YOU truly enjoy should work, so go out and experiment, and don’t give up every time the going gets tough.
The following is a quote I wrote, which I personally believe in deeply -
‘Negativity is between you and the person in the mirror, Positivity is what you share with the world’
End of the day, always remember that the only person’s opinion that truly matters is your own. Unless you are happy with yourself, respect yourself, and love yourself, don’t expect the world to do the same.
Now, moving past that, there are actually some really simple techniques that can help you overcome negativity and frustration, instantly.
The first technique which iI use is very simple – Find a mirror, look at yourself, and start smiling! I will write a separate article on the importance of smiling, but in terms of simply overcoming negative states of mind, this technique should be really helpful to you.
Actions and feelings go hand in hand, and since we can’t directly alter our feelings, we can instead alter our actions, indirectly influencing our feelings.
Another technique which I personally use, which I picked up from Anthony Robbin’s book ‘Unlimited Power’, is basic NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming). When you are in a negative headspace, close your eyes, and picture the most positive memory you can think of, from recent times. Next, in your mind, try making the sounds from that memory louder, and increase the brightness of the memory itself.
I am personally more of a visual learner, than an auditory one, so I find increasing the brightness of my happy memories to be extremely useful, and I am sure that it should help most of you as well.
There are many more NLP techniques, that I will post about more in detail in future posts, but try these basic ones for now, along with smiling at yourself in the mirror, while playing some music that usually pumps you up when you are in a positive headspace. Good luck guys! Remember, positive thoughts are a 100 times more powerful, and negative ones are 100 times more stressful.
